Who is this workshop for

People working with groups in the outdoors who want to develop foraging and wild cooking as part of their delivery package. Also accessible to anyone with an interest in enjoying wild food. This is a follow on from the foraging workshop and builds on this workshop. Knowledge of edible plants is assumed to the level taught on the foraging workshop.

Participants will:
  • Forage for all the wild ingredients to be cooked
  • Learn a few different fire lighting techniques including for wet conditions
  • Learn a few different fire set ups for cooking
  • Cook 4 or 5 different dishes with a high component of foraged food on an open fire. For example depending on availability:
      Fish baked in embers wrapped in burdock leaves
      Rabbit stew with ramsons, wild thyme, burdock shoot/root
      Nettle soup
      Bread flavoured with wild herbs
      Crispy wood avens
      Reedmace wrapped in dock leaves and baked in embers

Duration: 09.00 to 16.30

Cost: 150 for first two people, 25 per additional person

Further information: You'll need to bring a packed lunch as the food we cook to taste won't be ready till later in the afternoon. Price doesn't include food ingredients which you will need to bring yourself.

Workshop leader: Bruce Ferguson is qualified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning to teach bushcrafts to groups, has been foraging for wild food since the early 1980s and has been involved in bushcrafts and woodland skills for over 30 years.
