Tree identification - getting started

This half day session is for anyone who is interested in our native trees and wants a helping hand to get started identifying the trees to be seen in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and elsewhere in the northeast. We’ll also identify any non native forestry trees we come across such as the spruces and the pines. We’ll cover a range of important topics including:
  • Key parts of the tree and leaf to look out for to help identify them
  • Quick and easy tips to help you identify a particular tree species
  • Uses of certain trees past and present
You’ll get a bit of practice at identification with plenty of help when needed and we’ll also have a good stroll around a number of different habitats identifying the trees we find.
